James H. Richardson Letter #5

                            Vicksburg, Miss
                            July 13th /(18)63
	Dear Brother and Sister,
with my pen in hand I embrase the opertunity to
inform you that I am well at presant and I hope 
when this comes to hand it may find you in the 
Same Enjoyment of life and health.
        Well Sarah I am soory to inform you of
the Death of your brother James Richardson he
Died yesterday a week ago and was Buried a week
a go to day he Died with the fevers I understand.
I Seen Some of the Boys that Belonged to his Co,
They toald me the he was Put a way as Deicent as
he could be under the Sircumstances they was placed.
The Boys told me that he Died very easy and didn't
make any Strugels in death. I Did not know that
 he was Sick till I heard of his Death. As his
 regiment and ours is a bout twelve miles a part
 and I did have no chance to go and See him or
any of the Boys that I was acainted with. 
	Well I Suppose you have heard of the 
Surrender of Vicksburg before now. So I will Say 
but little a Bout it. But any way we had the
pleasure of marching in hear on the 4th of July
and we fellt very much Releaved By the Surrender
of the Burg. I think we was Celebrating the 4th 
very well. By closing the greatest victory that 
ever was gained in America.
	We have now got the Mississippi River open
from the fountain head to the mouth and our main
Army is on Rout for Mobil and I trust they may bee 
Sucesful.

the army censor letters??)

	Well I have nothing more of Importance
to Say So I will conclud Soon by asking you to
write Soon and give me the news in general.
So I give you and all my Friends my love and
well Wishes. I remain your Brother Untill 
Death.
