This is a precaution against spam. 

(It seems hopeless, as the spammers somehow find your address no
matter what.   But apparently there is no remedy except to keep
changing your address.)

Also, in the header of your email, be sure to put something about 
moths or parakeets or whatever the topic is.  Anything with a header
that is vague, such as "Hi" or "How are you?" or "Important!" or
"Please reply", may get deleted by mistake, because I get so many 
junk mails with headers like that.
