Who I am and Why I write:
I offer the following for those who have asked to know a little about this site and me. Some of you are just curious. Others need references for school papers. This should definitely be the shortest page of this site!
My purpose for writing is to glorify the God who made all that is. I also want to show that Christian theology and science can and do tell the same story when we are willing to accept both.
My name is Kevin Sluder. I live in Indiana (USA). I have a BS degree in vocational education and mechanical technology. This has absolutely nothing to do with creation, the Bible, the big bang, or even writing web pages. Some people like to know what gives the author the authority to speak on a subject. In my case I humbly reply it is my love of God! The information presented here has been gained from a lifetime of reading and studying, and from asking a lot of questions. It has been fine tuned by peer review and even more reading.
I grew up watching the Gemini and Apollo space missions on television. As a kid, Mr. Spock of Star Trek fame was my hero. I had plans of one day becoming an astronomer. That's not quite how things ended up. Currently I work as a computer aided draftsman for a limestone fabricator.
I have always felt God's presence in my life, although for most of that time I had no clue who He was. As a teen-ager I tried reading the Bible, but I was certain that Genesis could not be accurate. I found the laws of Exodus and Leviticus to be too burdensome too be believed. By the time I got to the lists of genealogies in Numbers I had lost interest. In college I looked for answers in the philosophies and religions of the world but they left me empty and unfulfilled.
Starting in 1990 God began to reveal Himself to me in ways I could not deny. Early in 1991, I picked up the Bible I had tried twenty years earlier to read. This time I began with the book of Matthew. By the time I was mid way through Luke, I was on my knees. I had found the God I had known all my life. So on March 3, 1991, I committed my life to serving the one true and living God.
I still had all these questions about Genesis. I tried to pretend for a while that I didn't, I even tried to pretend I believed in a young earth, but I didn't. I thought I had to, but I didn't! One day, I came to my senses and got honest with myself and God. I stopped pretending and started seeking understanding.
What I have tried to do on this site is to assemble much of the study notes I have made on this subject. It originally was intended to be used for a Sunday School lesson, which never happened. I worship with a wonderful group of people, but they find my views on creation just a little scary (give them time). I had a lot of notes and nothing to do with them, so I thought I would write a booklet and if it turned out well I would try to get it to the teachers in my area. Along the way I realized I needed peer review to keep it accurate. I have rewritten much of what I started with as my understanding has grown. I am sure it will continue to change in the days ahead.
Since starting this adventure, I have received many letters of thanks. This is an unexpected blessing which I would like to return by saying thanks to all who have taken the time to read God, Genesis and the big bang.

And the Holy Spirit of God, the ultimate source of wisdom, knowledge, and truth. He has heard my prayers on this topic for many years. I hope that I have been humble enough to listen as He has answered.
