I have computer enhanced these images, removing some papers that were attached to the flags by the Indiana State Flag Commision. No disrespect is intended in this act. While not completely authentic, I prefer them this way than with pieces of cardboard stuck on them. I hope you will agree, or at least not be offended!

Welcome to the homepage of the 49th Indiana Reenactment Unit. Please feel free to browse this homepage and learn about the 49th. We are a unit based out of Indianapolis, but have members from across Indiana as well as surrounding states. We are constantly striving to be the best unit in the field, with authenticity, with first person, and with fun.

As such, and like most reenactment units, we are looking for new members. If you are interested in perhaps joining our unit, then How to Become a Member is for you! If you are interested in joining, but wonder how much it costs, then perhaps Equipment You Will Need will be of service.

For information on the 49th Indiana and it's history, check out History of the 49th Indiana.

I have included a page for the 13th Corps, the Corps the 49th was attached to during the seiege of Vicksburg. Included with this page is a link to most of the regiments and batteries in the 13th Corps.
I also added the 7th Division, which was General George Morgan's Division at the Cumberland Gap.

Bob Patterson has donated some time and given us this history Outline of Company A.

For a schedule of this year's events, see Schedule

I have compiled a Roster of the original 49th Indiana members. I have included a list of them by company. Within this roster, there are links to the biographies I have put together for some of the men.
I am also attempting to gather as many gravesites as possible of the 49th's veterans. I'm fairly sure I'll never complete this list, but I will continue to gather what I can. If you have any information on this project, or any information on the 49th, including photos of soldiers of the 49th, diaries, letters, biographies, or service/military records of 49th soldiers, please write me and let me know.

Lastly, we would like to dedicate this page to the soldiers of the 49th Indiana, and all the soldiers of that war, who offered their lives for their country, and may they all rest peacefully in the knowledge that their sacrifice was NOT in vain! See Bivouac of the Dead.
