June the 7th lexington Ky Dear and most respected Wife I seat myself this beutiful saturday morning to let you no that I am well though I am not as stout as comon yet but I feel well I hope his will find you all well and in good spirits Now Rachel begin to wont to hear from you the last letter I got from was the 16th of last month B B Decker promised to send your letters that come to the Reg to me but I have not got any yet now I cant tell how long I will stay here yet I cant tell what the Reg is going to do we can hear that it is coming back but it will take time to prove these things Now Rachel tomorrow will be 7 months sence we was sworn in to the service god alone can tell what 7 months more will bring about it my bring peace and harmony i hope it will I dont think this great strugle will last through another winter my prayer is and has ben that it my come to a speeedy close the time begins to seam long to stay away from you I often think of you and the children I often pray for you I often dream of you that makes me feel sad to dream of seeing and being with you all athome and then awake and find my self far away but thare is a better day a coming thank god Now Rachel my object in riting this little letter is to let you no that we are going to start our overcoats home today we will express them to orleans Richard Kearby(1) and J.W. Simmons(2) rote to thoms Harris yesterdayt to come to orleans and get them I send my White Blanket overcoat Roundabout and cap and in the midle of all my profile and some more little accouterments I hope you will get them tha are rolled up and the blanket on the outside with my name on it Now Rachel rite and let me no whether you have got your money or not and give me all the news you can rite every thing that you think will interrest me dont rote so much about me coming home for thare is no chance for me to come now you must grin and bare it if I was at home I would just be in the way for we have got so lazy we cant work so no more on this I think I will rite to Brother Mickler tomorrow tell Mack to rite Now the cars is going out from here this morning on double quick to louisville and cincinnatti I must close Still pray for your unwrthy husban I often think of the many happy moments we have spent together around the famley alter farewell for this time David S to Rachel Morgan * as always, I do not correct the spelling or change the text.
