I dream of a world reversed, where naturalists have the most valued skills, and even mediocre ones are respected and well-paid, while techies struggle along in poorly-paid jobs and have to keep interrupting their work, on their own time, to learn things like the effect of rainfall on the life cycle of plant-eating insects, or how to identify all the local trees by their bark... things which they have no interest in or talent for, but are forced to master anyway in order to keep their jobs. The naturalists will help them, of course.... for about $80/hour. This makes perfect sense to everyone, because it takes intelligence, talent, and years of experience to become a competent field naturalist, and because understanding the natural environment is important to human needs and survival - completely unlike abstruse, dilettante-type stuff like whether to use HFS or HFS+ to format a hard drive. It's too bad if you happen to be technically or mechanically inclined instead, but that's just how the world is and you should get used to it, and work harder to bootstrap yourself up. After all, the naturalists earned every penny they've made with long hours of study.
