Hello again, I'm the Caretaker and
welcome to my Attic. I was strolling through
the mansion doing my usual cleaning and
dusting of the artifacts and came across some
very old coffee cups. As I took a closer look
I could see the intricate details on each of
the cups. Some have a gold leaf triming and
others have ornaments in relief or both.
You can see a lot of the details and
the vivid colors in the photographs below.
One cup in particular caught my attention
in that it had a ridge on the interior
edge. Well I did some research and found
a picture and description of the cup. This
kind of cup is rather specialized and
caters to men with mustaches. They call
it a mustache cup...a very useful thing.
The way this works is that when the person
tips the cup for a drink, the ridge keeps
the coffee from drenching his mustache, now
there is a small slit that allows the coffee
to pass through the ridge thus allowing
the person to enjoy his drink without
messing up his mustache.
---...---
Some of these cups date back
a little after the time of
the Civil War..need I say they are
 priceless. Ohh..that reminds me.
I guess it was in May or June of
1863 I was on my pleasure boat
 just cruising the Mississippi.
 Down around Vicksburg I saw
 my old friend General Grant
setting down and having a cup
of coffee well I waved and he
waved me over bein a friend and
all, he said well Caretaker I
haven't seen you for a month
of Sundays I said yes, no one has
I got locked in the attic by
 accident..I think hehe. I asked
him how the war was going and he
said well were really going to
have a blast here in a few days.
Little did I know what he mean't
at that time..and didn't ask, But
knowing Ulysses I knew it was
going to be big. He winked as he
took a drink of coffee and wiped
his mustache off and a few words
 I can't repeat, I said General I
have a coffee cup back at the
 museum that you might be
 interested in.
---...---
As you can see there are many
 items of interest on display
 throughout the Mansion that have
been uncovered. I love to plunder
in the Attic with all its nooks
and crannies I know there is
a treasure chest of things just
waiting to be discovered and each
will have its own story to tell.
Make it a point to come visit us
here at the Museum and see first
hand some of the artifacts and
relics that I will be presenting
 in the coming months.
"Don't Miss Out On What You Are
            Missing."
   Until next time....Take care.
