Drug-Free Communities Support Program
Hoosier Uplands was awarded a total of
$100,000 in funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration (SAMHSA) for the Drug-Free Communities
Support Program which will continue until September 2009, with
the potential of being renewed through September 2011.
The Grassroots Prevention Services
Coalition of Lawrence County, a project of Hoosier Uplands, is a
group of organizations, agencies, schools, and concerned
citizens who are working together to significantly reduce the
incidence of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse in Lawrence
County.
The Grassroots Prevention Services
Coalition of Lawrence County (GPSC) of Lawrence County is targeting multiple drugs
including: Prescription Drug Abuse, Alcohol, Smokeless
Tobacco, and addressing the two Drug Free Communities' goals:
-Reduce youth drug abuse
-Expand/enhance
collaboratives to support the work of the GPSC
Drug Free Communities is
currently supporting drug prevention media campaigns involving a
movie theater advertisement, community website (www.drugfree/lawrencecounty.org) , and drug
education billboards. A Youth Advisory Board is being
developed in hopes to combat drug abuse issues in Lawrence
County.
Amy Kirkpatrick serves
as the project's primary point of contact
for this grant.
