Who am I?-

Well, that's a tough question to answer. Let's start with the basics:

My name is Joe Bowman. I'm recently turned 19, male (if you haven't guessed yet), and I've decided that my profession of choice lies somewhere in the computing industry. I spent a bit of time at the Rochester Institute of Technology, working towards a Computer Science Degree that I hope to finish someday.

Let's see, what else. I stand approximately 6 feet three inches tall, have blond hair and glasses (I'm near-sighted), and live in Bloomington, Indiana, which is located about 50 miles due south of Indianapolis. I like computers, role-playing games, long walks, beautiful sunsets, and the comp- err, wait a sec. This isn't a personal ad. ;p

Here's what I looked like when I had long hair and was in college:

Anyway, as you may have guessed I have a great sense of humor, and I'm thankful that my roommates can put up with me (I know it's a chore for me to put up with them... I can only imagine what it's like for them to deal with me. ;) Other interesting facts about me: I took four years of French in high school, I'm a self-proclaimed Computer Genius, and I'm and avid reader of many different fantasy novels. I've played percussion instruments for over a decade now, though oppurtunities and the desire to perform have both dropped off a bit since I graduated from high school and lost the ability to attend regular band classes. I miss playing, especially with my old teachers, all of whom were really great instructors.

What I'm Doing-

Well, what I'm doing is pretty much whatever I want. Right now, I'm in the process of redesigning my website, hopefully in order to add flashy effects and such in the near future. Of course, like many people, I'm an incessant procrastinator, so you never know when I'll get around to it.

Right now, though I have several projects that I'm working on. One is my website, currently consisting of the page you're viewing. Yeah, it's not what it used to be. But then again, I've progressed a bit since the last time I designed it, and well, darn it, I want to show off some of the things I can do now. But that showing off comes later. Right now I want to put together a decent-looking webpage.

I'm also working as part of the coding team for GraeyMud. Hosted off a server run by a close friend of the guy in charge, it's a place where I can finally kick back and relax, enjoying myself and letting my coding projects run wild. The server is an OpenBSD machine, and I do my coding in C. C: Fun for the whole family. ;)

Some of you may have come here from the mud Arcane Nites. For those of you who don't know, yes, I used to play there. I even became one of the more popular Immortals. Though I can never hope to achieve the amazing popularity that Carly did, I like to think that I at least helped bring the Immortals a bit closer to the players. Unfortunately, all of that changed after a very rude, manipulative implementor, Ryu by name, decided that he didn't want me around. The details are ugly, but he decided that he no longer wanted me around, and ran me off the mud, much to the repeated cries by the players not to. Go figure. Anyway, I'm quite through playing there for the moment. But who knows? Perhaps someday Davion Majere may rise again from the ashes that he reduced himself to. To correct the common misconception these days: I left Arcane Nites. I was not kicked off. Instead, Ryu had a hissy fit after I left, and actually wound up site-banning people left and right in an attempt to keep me from connecting. Ah well. Some people are a bit too paranoid.

Anyway, I've now moved on to bigger and better things, such as developing my computer programming skills. I'm now confident enough to claim an in-depth working knowledge of Visual Basic 5, and thanks to the release of Visual Basic 6, I now have some minor understanding of DHTML, and can actually write front-ends to server-based Visual Basic applications with it. I just completed a bill-tracking for myself and my roommates, to keep track of who pays what each month, where the bill goes, etc... It's nice, it's clean, and, most importantly, it works. Go figure.
